TIM THORNTON

Tell us a bit about yourself. When did you come to First Lubbock?
Robyn and I were married in September of 1976. We have two sons, Matthew who is married to Maegan and they have one son named Oliver. Luke is married to Tara and they have three children, Aaleyah, Branden and Isaac, We have lived in Lubbock since 2010. We plan to retire in Lubbock one day and find it to be a great and friendly place to live, We joined First Lubbock in January of 2019.
What was your childhood dream job?
As a young boy I wanted to be a farmer like my Dad, but after growing up on the farm I discovered that I was not cut out for that. I then decided that serving the Lord in full time ministry would be great and that is how God led me through these years.
What's your favorite place you've visited?
One of our favorite places we have visited is Chicago. We plan to go back some day and spend more time there. We also enjoyed New York City, Washington DC and Boston.
Other than Jesus, what historical figure would you most like to meet?
Other than Jesus Christ, I would like to meet The Apostle Peter and Moses.
What are a few of your hobbies?
I enjoy hunting upland game birds, dove and deer. I played racquetball competitively for many years and hope to start playing again. We live near a golf course and hope to both play golf in our retirement. I enjoy yard work, working in the garage and reading.
What do you love most about First Lubbock?
I love our church because it has a reputation of reaching out to all age groups. We have met people and families of all ages and they seem to love growing in Christ in this local body of believers. There are so many opportunities to reach out to the community and city of Lubbock through the ministries of First Baptist.
What would you say to a guest to encourage them on their journey to finding a church home?
When I have been asked why we came to First Lubbock I usually say that it is a place where you can easily get involved and there are so many places to get plugged in!
