THE FIRST LUBBOCK COLLEGE MINISTRY IS PASSIONATE ABOUT LEADING STURDENTS TO LIVES THAT ARE MODELED AFTER JESUS. WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT WE ACCOMPLISH THIS THROUGH MISSIONAL LIVING, EXPECTATIONAL WORSHIP, PASSIONATE TEACHING, AND COMMUNITY FELLOWSHIP.

THE COLLEGE MINISTRY IS BUILT UPON FOUR FOUNDATIONAL ELEMENTS:

Get to know…

Evan Henson

Associate Pastor for University Life

  • I have been at First Lubbock since the end of 2017. I was the Youth Pastor until 2022 when I shifted roles and became the College Pastor. From 2019-2022 I served as the Youth and College Pastor.

I attended Howard Payne University where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Practical Theology. I then attended Baylor’s Truett Seminary where I completed a Master of Divinity with a concentration in Ministry Leadership. I am currently writing my dissertation for a Doctor of Ministry degree at Baylor’s Truett Seminary.

  • I really enjoy our current busy life which has us going from sport to sport to watch our kids on Saturdays. Finishing it off hosting our friends for dinner would be the perfect day.

  • Reese’s Pieces and a Mt. Dew Baja Blast ZERO

  • I love working with college students at First Lubbock because they are newly embracing some freedom as adults. The students that come to our ministry are embracing their Faith, often in a new way, and hungry to continue growing as disciples of Jesus.

Stacey Benton

College Ministry Assistant

  • Started FBC Fall 1996
    Started working August 2016

  • Home all day with nowhere to be and bonus if any of my kids are in town!

  • A Reign energy drink (only time I get them) and Nerds clusters.

  • The friendships I have made with the other adults who serve with me and of course the students who we serve. They remind me that no matter how old you are you always need a mom around to feed you or help with loads of laundry or make sure you’re going to class or take you to a doctor’s appointment and I love being their Lubbock mom!

Austin Laden

College Ministry Intern

  • These last 2 years at First Lubbock can be easily described in three words. Feels like home. Getting to go to church where my parents went when they were at Tech and getting to build into such a strong community has been nothing short of amazing.

  • Sleep in for as long as it takes me to wake up naturally, watch the Formula 1 Qualifying Session or Sprint Race, work out for an hour or two before hitting a cafe for some coffee and some bible study time.

  • My go-to recently has been a Watermelon Red Bull and a bag of mini pretzels. Obviously I only get the essentials…

  • The community at FL College is what makes it so special. It feels like one giant family that will always support and welcome you in. It’s made my time in Lubbock something I will always remember, and I’m eternally grateful to have joined this ministry.
