GET TO KNOW:

KEN DRAUGHON

ASSOCIATE PASTOR FOR MUSIC AND WORSHIP

Tell us a bit about yourself.  When did you come to First Lubbock?

Libby (my gorgeous, godly, gifted wife of 35 years),  Davis ( a 2020 graduate of University of Arizona Global Campus, guitarist with Grant Gilbert Band and loan assistant), and Will (a 2019 graduate at Texas A&M, consultant with West Monroe Partners in Dallas) moved here in June of 2012.  We thought we had moved to the red-dirt on Mars but have fallen in love with this place and especially the people! I have had the privilege of serving in 12 churches (part-time and full-time) over the past 41 years in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Nebraska and Texas.

What are the last three books you've read?

Everybody Always – Bob Goff
The Road Back to You – Ian Morgan Cron & Suzanne Stable
Surprised By Hope – NT Wrigh

What's your favorite place you've visited?

a) Libby and I went on a Mediterranean cruise for our 25th anniversary (Spain, France, Italy, Croatia) and were privileged to see some amazing sites!

b) We took a family vacation a few years back to southern Utah — WOW!!!

Other than Jesus, what historical figure would you most like to meet?

I would love to meet and spend some time with Bear Bryant, not just because he coached THE University of Alabama football team, but because, from the reports I have read, was an amazing leader.

What are a few of your hobbies?

I love watching high school and college football, working in the yard, reading, and hanging with our family.

What do you love most about First Lubbock?

I am so grateful to be in a church that is on mission — everything about First Lubbock focuses us to love God (with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength) and to love others (as we love ourselves) 168 hours each week.  I love how we have tons of opportunities to serve others, to share the crazy love we have experienced in Christ with anyone and everyone, both in Lubbock and around the world!

What would you say to a guest to encourage them on their journey to finding a church home?

This is a very imperfect place (because it’s filled with very imperfect, messy people like me) that will teach you God’s word, encourage you to allow what you learn to shape how you live, and empower you to use your gifts to help others learn and grow as well.  We are also a unique, diverse people who will love you and bless your socks off if given the chance!
